Plans for Continuity of Nutrition - Update

Plans for Continuity of Nutrition

Good afternoon!  We are in the process of planning to begin meal service on Monday March 23rd.  This will be at no charge to students and anyone under 19 can get a meal.  We anticipate an option for purchase of adult meals, too.  Additional details will be forthcoming.  In the meantime, if you are experiencing food security issues please contact our family liaison, Ms. Candace Smith at candace.smith@bayardtigers.org as the local food pantry would like to partner with TigerCARE to help anyone who is in need of food assistance.

Bayard Public Schools Families,

The Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) has received a waiver from the Federal Government to allow serving meals at non-congregate sites during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Our school district has submitted a request for a district-level waiver to allow for a mixed approach of a drive-up meal pickup (where parents pick-up meals for their children at the curb) and delivery (for families that cannot come to the pick-up, e.g., rural families).

We will be developing a survey to determine the number of meals, locations, etc.  This will be a logistical challenge, but one that I am confident our team can overcome.  When you receive a survey invitation, please complete that in a timely manner so we can make sure we meet the nutritional needs of each student.

Once we have received approval of the waiver from NDE, we will proceed to implementing a nutrition continuity program.

Finally, we will continue to ask this:  Students and families please do not gather at alternate locations. Please practice social distancing to help keep our communities safe and protect our most vulnerable populations!
