BPS Extends The School Day To Make Up Time

On February 23rd a survey was sent out to determine how Bayard Public Schools will make up lost instructional time due to snow days. The results of the survey indicated that parents would like to add time to the current school day instead of adding days to the end of the year.

To honor your preference, we will be adding 30 minutes to the end of the day beginning Monday, March 13th. Bus students will be dismissed 5 minutes early and routes will run accordingly.

At the High School, students will rotate every 4 days to a different class period for the final 30 minutes of the day. Because students are pulled at the end of the day for activities and we have had several late start days, we will focus on periods 1,2,7, and 8 to help make up for lost instructional time. The schedule through Easter break will be:

March 13-16 Students will stay in their 8th period class

March 17, 20-22 Students will go to their 7th period class

March 23-24, 27-28 Students will go to their 1st period class

March 29-31, April 3 Students will go to their 2nd period class

April 4-5, 11-12 Students will go to their 3rd period class.

Elementary students will remain in their homerooms from 3:25 until 3:55, with bus students being dismissed at 3:50. During their extra time, students will focus on foundational skills that they may be behind in due to the extra days out of school.

Please remember that these minutes are put in place to make up for instructional time lost due to snow days. Attendance will be taken and students are required to attend classes until 4:00PM. Sports and other activity practices will be allowed to begin at 4:15PM
