Karsen Hunter

Karsen takes First at State

Karsen Hunter and Jacob Dalbey both competed at the State Wrestling tournament in Omaha on February 14th - 16th. Hunter claimed the State Championship and earned 30.0 team points. In the first round he won by pin in 1:07. In the quarterfinal he won by pin again, this time in 31 seconds. In the semifinal, he faced the second ranked wrestler.  He pinned his opponent Collin Gale in 1:14. For the 1st place match, he pinned Clay Thiele of Clearwater-Orchard to become the D195 State Champion. The pin came in 3:48, marking the 1st time Hunter was taken past the 1st period at the State Tournament. Hunter is the 16th wrestler in Bayard history to bring home the State title.

Dalbey scored 3.0 team points. He lost his championship round by 0-4 decision. In the consolation semi round one he won by pin in 3:33. However, he lost the consolation semi round two by a 2-6 decision to conference opponent Tyler Nagel of Morrill.

State Champ Karsen Hunter expressed how he felt after being in Omaha. Hunter said, “It felt great to win. I’ve worked so hard on and off the mats.” He has made it to State all four years of his high school wrestling career. “My favorite thing about State was getting to hangout with some of my teammates for the last time.” Hunter’s mom has been his biggest supporter throughout his entire career. Before his matches, “I was nervous, but I knew that I was ready and there was nothing else I could do.” Congratulations to Karsen Hunter on becoming the Nebraska State Champ his Senior year of high school.
