FFA Attends Stock Show

By Cambree Schmaltz

Hours before the sun rose on Monday the 21st, 24 of Bayard’s FFA students headed south for the National Western Stock Show. All first year Bayard FFA members and those who display anything at the county fair are given the opportunity to attend. With only one stop for breakfast, they traveled onward to Denver. After arriving at around 9:30, the students were free to begin their day’s adventures. Walking around the vendors, visiting the stockyards, and watching equestrian and beef shows are just a few of the opportunities the students received. Denton Premus, a sophomore, thought the beef shows were really cool when he stopped in to see some of the prize winning stock. Many enjoyed the time with their friends and shopping. In the afternoon, everyone grouped back together in the Coliseum to watch the NWSS rodeo. The students were able to show a little hometown pride to former Bayard graduate, Kalane Anders, who steer wrestled in the rodeo. Freshman Emma Henkel commented on the rodeo and she described it as “very entertaining.” After watching all the bull riders, barrel racers, team ropers, and bareback riders -just to name a few- they concluded their stock show day trip and headed home. The opportunity took many kids out of their comfort zones, but everyone made memories from their time at the stock show.
