Trout in the Classroom

Trout in the Classroom has been a part of Mrs. Krul's Science Classroom for 4 years now. Each year brings new adventures! Students are able to water test and make sure water levels are safe for trout survival. Students study the trout itself and how the trout swims, moves, eats, etc. by dissecting and learning external and internal features. The program runs from January to May each year and students use temperature units to calculate the hatching of the eggs. The eggs soon hatch after arrival and observations begin. It is a great way to learn a living life cycle.  As of last year, students get to take the trout and release the survivors in May at the Terry Ponds. During the release, students learn more about macroinvertebrates in the ponds, features about native fish in Nebraska, and then can fish using live bait! We are very thankful for our sponsors for the program and would like to thank the Environmental Trust of Nebraska, Trout Unlimited, and everyone else that contributes to this amazing program!
