Six FFA Members Attend National Convention
By Leah Albro
On Tuesday, November 29, six of us seniors began our trip to the 92nd National FFA Convention. Each one of us that went can all wholeheartedly agree that it was an experience to remember. It’s held in downtown Indianapolis each year, so naturally, we flew. FFA is such a great organization to be a part of because it is so much more diverse than people think. Over 69,000 FFA members were in attendance this year ranging from the state of Alaska to the Virgin Islands and from Maine to Hawaii, as well as everywhere in between. The welcoming ceremonies were held in Lucas Oil Stadium, where the Indianapolis Colts play. We listened to the retiring National FFA President’s address and the guest speaker, Bob Goff. The next few days were spent walking around the many different expos and college booths in the Convention Center. On Friday, we got up early and went to the Indianapolis Speedway. We had a tour that took us around the racetrack. We also went go kart racing, which we all enjoyed. Saturday was our last day and also the day we went to the zoo. Watching the dolphin show was a definite highlight of the trip. We caught our departing flight at 5 p.m. Indy time and we arrived back home in Bayard at 1 a.m. I can speak for the other five that went on this trip when I say that being a part of something like FFA has helped shape and create the people we are today. We have been so fortunate to have opportunities like this one and all the great memories that come along with it. A big thanks has to go out to our advisor and friend, Mr. Rafferty. Without his guidance and knowledge none of this would be possible.
