Lettering Policies

Bayard Public Schools’ Lettering Procedures for High School Activities

 

Girls’ and Boys’ Basketball

Players must play in half of the varsity quarters of games in which they are available to participate. Available is in uniform and eligible to play.

Seniors who have gone out for Basketball all four years and are in good standing at the end of the season will automatically letter.

Coaches will make the final decisions regarding lettering. (Example: season ending injury)

Speech

A student must be awarded a place in the top six at a varsity speech meet.

*The coaching staff reserves the right to award or deny letters or post season awards.

 

Vocal Music

In order to letter in Choir students must:

Have 0 unexcused absences for performances or rehearsals.  Students may have exempt absences as stated in the school handbook and still earn their letter.

Audition for something above and beyond.  There are multiple opportunities throughout the year to audition for honor choirs.

Conduct themselves in a manner that is a credit to our school and program.  In the case of any disciplinary action by law enforcement, the school, or Mrs. Babic, the student will forfeit their opportunity to letter.

Cross Country

All athletes must meet 3 or all of the following guidelines to letter: 

1. Athlete participates in every meet. Injury of illness situations will be dealt with on an individual basis.

2. Athlete places in the top 15 in novice OR varsity competition.

3. If the team places in the top 3 in conference or district meets, all members of that team will receive a letter.

4. Athlete must adhere to all school, team and eligibility rules while participating for the whole season.

5. Athlete may miss no more than 5 practices per season.

Varsity Football

ATHLETES MUST EARN 60 POINTS TO RECEIVE A VARSITY LETTER *

Boys’ Track

To earn a varsity letter, you must satisfy at least one of the following requirements:

1.  Earn a minimum of 60 points in varsity-level competition.  In relay events, each member scores the same points as the team.

Meets:  10 points are awarded for 1st, 8 points are awarded for 2nd, 6 points are awarded for 3rd, 4 points are awarded for 4th, 2 points are awarded for 5th, and 1 point is awarded for 6th. The same process for scoring of 8 places at a meet as for a meet with 6 places scored will be used.

2.  Having the top performance on the team in a standard individual event at the end of the season will score as points toward the 60 point requirement.   This criterion only applies if there are at least five documented performances from our team in that event over the course of the season.

3. Participate in winning conference and/or district team championship.

4. Qualify for the state track meet.

5.  Must be a member in good standing with coaches/team.

WRESTLING LETTERING POLICY

Athlete must attain 65 points throughout the season.*

POINTS ARE AWARDED AS FOLLOWS:

• ALL MATCH POINTS TO BE AWARDED:

WBF=6, WBTF=5, WBM=4, WBD=3, NOT GETTING PINNED=1

• GRADE POINT AVERAGE (2ND AND 3RD QTR):  HONOR ROLL STUDENT WILL

GET 5 PTS, HONORABLE MENTION WILL GET 4 PTS.

• CONFERENCE TEAM MEMBER = 1 PT.

• DISTRICT TEAM MEMBER = 1 PT.

• NO MISSED PRACTICES = 5 PTS

• COMPLETE THE SEASON IN GOOD STANDING WITH THE SCHOOL

  AND COACHES = 1 PT.

• TEAM VOTE  /  1 PT. EACH WEEK

EXEMPLARY ATTITUDE, WORK ETHIC, SPORTSMANSHIP, AND WILLINGNESS TO GIVE THE TEAM.

** COACHES MAY USE THEIR DISCRETION IN DETERMINING A LETTER WINNER DUE TO SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES.

  

 

GIRLS’ TRACK & FIELD

LETTERING POLICY:

THE ATHLETE MUST ATTAIN 60 LETTER POINTS.  POINTS WILL BE AWARDED AS FOLLOWS:

IN A MEET THAT AWARDS 6 PLACES…POINT VALUES WILL BE:

1ST PLACE = 10 POINTS

2ND PLACE = 8 POINTS

3RD PLACE = 6 POINTS

4TH PLACE = 4 POINTS

5TH PLACE = 2 POINTS

6TH PLACE = 1 POINT

IN A MEET THAT AWARDS 8 PLACES(STATE)…POINT VALUES WILL BE:

1ST PLACE = 10 POINTS

2ND PLACE = 8 POINTS

3RD PLACE = 6 POINTS

4TH PLACE = 5 POINTS

5TH PLACE = 4 POINTS

6TH PLACE = 3 POINTS

7TH PLACE = 2 POINTS

8TH PLACE = 1 POINT

ALL RELAY MEMBERS WILL RECEIVE QUARTER POINT VALUES FOR PLACE.

CONFERENCE TEAM MEMBER = 5 PTS.

DISTRICT TEAM MEMBER = 5 PTS.

GRADE POINT AVERAGE:  HONOR ROLL STUDENT WILL GET 5 PTS,

HONORABLE MENTION WILL GET 3 PTS.

COMPLETE THE SEASON IN GOOD STANDING WITH THE SCHOOL AND COACHES = 1 PT.

Girls’ and Boys’ Golf

 Medal in a meet (Top 10)
 Be on a team that places in the top 3 at a major meet (More than 6 teams)
 Participate on a varsity team in ½ or more of the meets.

Volleyball

A player will earn a varsity letter if she earns a total of points that is equivalent to the total number of varsity matches.  So if we play 28matches you must have 28 points.

1 point for every varsity match or every 5 JV matches

1 point for Honor Roll 1st quarter

5 points Excellent practice attendance = no unexcused absences

5 points for participating in summer league, weight lifting, and team camp.  If you participated in one or two you receive 1 point for each.

5 points positive teammate-good attitude, effort, & sportsmanship throughout the season (Coaches discretion)

5 points complete the season in good standing with Coaches and teammates.  Not doing something that would be detrimental to the team or the school.

Coaches may use their discretion on final lettering decisions.

One-Act

To earn a letter in one-act, crew members must do the following:

1. work every concession
2. Participate in all fund-raising activities
3. Do not miss any practices
4. Do not miss any competitions
5. Do their part to the best of the ability.

To earn a letter in one-act, speaking parts must

work every concession
Participate in all fund-raising activities
Do not miss any practices
Do not miss any competitions
Do their part to the best of the ability.

C.If team finishes 2nd or above at WTC everyone letters.

D.If team finishes 2nd or above at District everyone letters.

Discretion of practice schedule, etc., is left to the one-act coach
