Reminders

Here is a heads up on how homework and grading will work this year.  Your 4th grader will always have a chance to better his/her grade.  They may do this by redoing their papers (other than assessments) that are sent home with a grade below a 100%.  If they bring them back the next day corrected, their 2 scores will be averaged for a new grade.  If they don’t bring them back corrected the next day they will receive their original grade for the assignment.

Beginning in the 2nd quarter (October 20), your child will no longer have the opportunity to finish homework during their recess times.  It is expected to be complete and turned in at 8:30 every morning.  If their work is not completed by then, they will receive a grade for what they have done.  If they forget their homework at home and it is not at school by 3:20, they will receive a zero.

Flowerfield

Dear Parents,

Our class will be visiting the restored, one room, 1888 Flowerfield Schoolhouse November 4th, in Harrisburg, Nebraska. This old school helps to preserve a part of America’s history for our school children. The children will step back in time and experience school as it was over 100 years ago.

We need your help in preparing a historic lunch for your child. He/she will need a “lunch pail” which may be made from a coffee can, shortening can, basket, etc. The lunch may also be wrapped in plain brown paper or cloth to keep it “authentic.” Suggestions for food include: corn muffins, cold pancakes, cheese, jerky, hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit, carrots, cookie, etc. Water will be provided at the school. ABSOLUTELY NO PLASTIC! This includes saran wrap or plastic Ziploc baggies.

We will dress in clothing suggestive of the turn of the century. Girls may wish to wear an apron or pinafore over a mid-calf or long skirt and a bonnet or big bow in their hair. If the weather is cold, the girls may want to wear a pair of long pants/sweats/long johns under their skirt. Boys may wear long sleeve plaid shirts, jean and suspenders, bib overalls or pants rolled up. A handkerchief will be expected since Kleenex wasn’t available in 1888!

Thanks for your help in making this a memorable learning experience for your child! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
