Mrs. Shimps Class
December 19, 2008
The first semester has almost come to an end
and Mrs. Shimp's fourth
grade has been busy preparing for the holidays. We began by
making
cinnamon and apple sauce ornaments to take out to Chimney Rock
Visitors Center. There, we learned all about toys pioneer
children
had. When we got back to school, we put up a very large tree
in our
classroom and decorated it with different Christmas ornaments that
we
made.
Christmas time has even helped us prepare for
the state writing
assessment coming up. We have been writing about our favorite
parts
of Christmas. I think opening gifts was the most popular part
of the
holiday season.
Christmas isn't the only thing on our minds
lately. Native Americans
occupy our time in Social Studies. Buffalo, the earth, and
the
different lifestyles of the Plains Indians had have been very
interesting to learn about! We even made paper sack buffalo
hides,
which was really fun!
Our class just finished "Sarah Plain and Tall"
and have been making
some really great connections to life on the prairie that we
have
already learned about. I think everyone really enjoyed the
book, and
watching the movie too.
Well, we are looking forward to a nice holiday
break to spend with
family and friends. We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a
Happy
New Year!! Mrs. Shimp's 4th grade
