Mrs. Hawley's Class
November 18, 2008
Elementary Class of the Week: Nov. 3-7
Mrs. Hawley's Class
1. What topics are you going to be learning about during your week?
We are beginning a chapter on ancient Egypt. We will be producing a travel log of all our adventures as we travel into the past and learn about the Pharaohs. We will learn to read and write using hieroglyphs and we will even study to become apprentice mummy makers!
2. Did you have any highlights from the week prior to this?
The sixth graders had a wonderful off-campus Halloween party on Friday. We danced, ate pizza, chips, dips, and many other wonderful treats. The decorations were fantastic! Our parents did a fabulous job of putting together a great party for us. Many thanks to them for all their time and efforts. We had a great time!
3. Are you looking forward to anything special in the near future?
If tests are special, then we are in for several of them. We will have a science test this week, and possibly an online test for science. It is possible that Mrs. Hawley will even sneak in a handwriting assessment.
4. Have you created any special projects for class or art?
We recently had a display in the hallway of our Ice man artifacts. We created items that the Ice man might have had with him and wrote paragraphs explaining how old the artifacts are, where they came from, and what they were used for. This was an exciting project because we learned that people from 5,300 years ago had technology that we never would have guessed they had. Did you know that the Ice man had fire starter that was something like matches?!
5. What are some semester or yearly goals your class has set?
Each student has an A.R. goal of 3 points per week. If we meet our goal each week, it is possible to earn over 100 points for the year.
